April + New York

Bugaboo launched their Andy Warhol stroller line and after the festivities we got together to film a vignette with some NYC area bloggers on the High Line in Lower Manhattan. Really a fun shoot--lots of people were out on a busy Friday afternoon and the High Line didn't disappoint.

NEW YORK STORIES.

Anytime the ladies at Small Fry come to me with an idea I'm all in. They are so good at what they do. We hooked up with Naomi from Love Taza | Rockstar Diaries, with kids Eleanor and Samson in tow, for a morning jaunt through the city. You simply haven't lived until you've been chased out of Central Park for crossing the fences to twirl on the lawns like Julie Andrews. Eleanor is the best twirler. We crammed into packed subway trains and hustled through Times Square until Samson fell asleep, filming like crazy. Turns out sneaking a camera rig into the MoMA is a breeze, too ;)

Belle & Gaby showing us some of the best spots to curate supplies for a world class urban picnic...

I was thrilled that Natalie from Nat The Fat Rat was game to make a film. She's been on my radar for a while. We came up with the idea for a mid-century inspired New York outing in midtown. We strolled through street bookseller's stalls, learned the art of hailing a taxi and enjoyed the Google Earth vista from the top of the E.S.B...

Rounded out this trip over in Brooklyn with Kelsey Nixon. As a chef with her own show on the Cooking Channel she has pretty much the best gig ever. She invited me into her home for a little behind the scenes filmmaking/cooking fun. Did I mention I love food shoots?… (that's her actual view, btw)

west elm + Etsy + Emily Henderson + LA

west elm is teaming up with Etsy for a series of collaborations that feature designers. They wanted to create promotional videos for the west elm website and social media platforms that showcase some of these talented artists. The project kicked off at their Los Angeles store with HGTV host Emily Henderson who hand-selected the LA group.

I think it's great that west elm is highlighting independent designers, no other major home design retailer has done that. These Etsy folks sell many of the same products as west elm, but west elm embraces and even features talented, local creators. That was the first thing I noticed when I visited their new SLC store--a prominent section of local products. Good karma, and pretty smart marketing really.

Oh and The Flashdance was there. Stay tuned for more west elm/Etsy vids..

Susan Petersen is the creative force behind Freshly Picked, a company that makes handcrafted leather moccasins for children. Millie Soelberg is a designer and mother of four who also runs a few restaurants with her husband.

We teamed up to film a lifestyle short for Freshly Picked that features Millie and her kids at home, while at the same time highlighting how they love their moccs--A fashion film and a family portrait all rolled into one.

Millie has effortless artistic sensibilities and her home reflects that wonderfully; and she has some glorious mid-century furniture! Totally my kind of space. Such a cute family.

…..oh, and those moccs!

Sarah & Ryan wanted to celebrate the one year birthday of their daughter Vivienne by trekking into the mountains for a winter woodland picnic. They approached us about creating a short film to document their family adventure. It was a beautiful afternoon, winter sun, cold mountain air and tranquil alpine vistas at every turn. And, as it turned out, Vivi loved every minute; such a great little traveller!

The lovely flower crown featured was fashioned by our friend and talented florist Sarah Winward. You can find her here.

Laura Wiertzema lives in LA with her husband and two boys. She's Senior Visual Manager for Anthropologie and runs a popular fashion/lifestyle blog called Ascot Friday. She's also the founder of the Instagram blog Target Does It Again.

We went on a seaside adventure with Laura and her boys, handheld camera in tow, to capture the beautiful and free-spirited relationship she has with her kids. Everything came together so perfectly. The light, the setting, the boys' personalities, the rides, the ocean…it was truly one of the most enjoyable shoots I've ever done!

As I was typing up this blog post an email popped into my inbox from Anthropologie.com with a style piece featuring none other than….Laura! So fun, yeah for stylish and talented friends!

Today was the release of Vol. 2 of Voyage Magazine, a food & travel mag that our friends Britt ChudleighAnn Whitaker and Marte Marie Forsberg created. And we've been savoring it all morning! Britt and Ann are our go-to favs for anything food related, you may remember our styled dinner party shoot with them that was featured here.

For those of us who maintain that the intoxicating combination of travel and food is a reason to voyage unto itself, this mag is pitch perfect. We were pricing flights to Norway after reading chapter one (seriously). Be sure to check it out. So excited for what these amazing women are creating, beautiful work!

We brought in the new year filming braid tutorials with Rubi Jones during her workshop at Koo de Ker in SLC. We've been fans of Rubi's aesthetic for a while and love what she's doing over at She Lets Her Hair Down. She's an artist with great sensibilities. Browsing the inspiration page on her site is a joy, we share her love of vintage 60's French culture, and yes, beautiful hair!

Rubi lives in Paris where she styles shoots for clients like Chanel and Dior, and still finds the time to run a men's accessories brand with her husband. We feel so fortunate to be able to collaborate with such talented and creative people, shooting with Rubi is effortless and inspiring.  -- Happy braiding!

Pingback: Thanks to Diana at Miss Moss for featuring this post on her beautiful style blog, we're big fans!

We got together recently with Joy Cho, a graphic designer who runs the lifestyle blog Oh Joy! She's also a food enthusiast who worked in the NY fashion industry before launching her own business, and now designs an array of products for clients such as Anthropologie, Land of Nod and West Elm. Joy's Pinterest has become wildly popular for inspiration and ideas.

Aaand she's the mother of Ruby, one of the most adorable little girls you'll ever meet.

We visited their home in the hip Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, in collaboration with the folks at Small Fry, to make a short film that features a typical day at home with them. Our goal was to capture Joy's daily routine in the most beautiful, organic way possible. Ruby stole our hearts!

Kristen Howerton blogs at Rage Against The Minivan, a site that is equal parts hilarious, witty, no nonsense and intimate; with takes on every aspect of raising a family in this day and age. We had the privilege of filming her and her darling family as they explored tidal pools at sunset near their home in Southern California. The result was some pretty magical footage that is playful and spontaneous. Children. Sand. Water. Aquatic Life...basically it was kid heaven. And a reminder of why we love our job :)

October came so fast this year and the extra chill in the air got us excited for cooking again. So we headed over to David & Sarah Winward's place and made a short film about preparing and enjoying a simple meal together with friends; the fresh cut flowers, the seasonal vegetables, rolled dough, etc.; and finally, the meal itself. Where has the salted caramel pear been hiding all these years? Had a lovely time putting this together with the extremely talented Britt Chudleigh, Ann WhittakerSarah Winward, David Winward and CJ Whittaker.
